photojournalist & social documentary photographer
Ruth Goodwin is a photojournalist and social documentary photographer. Born in the UK, Ruth called Australia home from the end of 2007 until 2022 before returning to London.
After commencing her career in business and strategy, Ruth decided to pursue journalism in 2014, completing a Master of Arts in Journalism at Griffith University, Australia. She graduated in early 2016.
Ruth is passionate about documenting humanitarian and social justice projects to bring awareness and much needed change to a range of issues impacting our world.
Ruth is inspired by the power of images to provoke emotion, challenge existing perceptions, shed light on events and communicate the essence of a place and the reality of a situation. She is also inspired by their ability to motivate action, whether it’s the decision to support the mission of an NGO, advocate for refugees seeking safe harbour or to set foot on new ground.
Ruth is currently based in London. She is currently working as a freelance Actuary and is the Head of Operations for the non-profit organisation the Cyber Monitoring Centre. Alongside this she is involved in social impact work, completes social documentary photography projects and volunteers for local community social initiatives. She previously worked for ViacomCBS Networks International (now Paramount) in the programming team for the MTV Australia and MTV NZ television channels. She has also held roles with PwC in the UK, Australia and Bermuda.
